Public parks are the focal points of our communities—places where families gather, events are hosted, and residents connect. Eco Crete was proud to contribute to the revitalization of Veterans Memorial Park by installing a custom stamped concrete plaza designed to provide an inviting, durable, and structurally sound gathering space.
The Challenge: Precision Layouts and Complex Geometries
Constructing a heavy-use concrete plaza in an active park requires meticulous planning, especially when working around established landscapes. The design called for a sprawling, textured plaza integrated with multiple curved planting wells and tree wells.
To execute this, our team had to form complex radius geometries—including nine planters with a 5-foot radius and one with a 3.5-foot radius—while managing on-site utility integrations like a PSE&G electrical pad, all within a tight municipal schedule.
The Solution: Custom Radius Curbing & Verona Stone Stamping
The Eco Crete team executed a highly detailed masonry plan to deliver a clean, modern layout:
- Precision Radius Curbing: We formed and poured heavy-duty 9″ x 18″ radius curbs around the designated tree and planting wells. To work around the mature trees on-site, we carefully contoured the curb depth in root-heavy zones, ensuring the structural walls stayed perfectly level and secure.
- Verona Stone Stamping: The main plaza pavement was poured 4″ thick with a custom Light Gray base color and stamped with a premium Verona Stone pattern. This texture replicates the hand-chiseled look of natural paving stones while offering the monolithic strength of reinforced concrete.
- Designed Saw-Cut Joints: We designed and executed a custom saw-cut joint layout. These joints are strategically placed to absorb natural concrete expansion while aligning with the geometric pattern of the Verona Stone to keep the surface visually seamless.
- Utility Pad Integration: We coordinated on-site to pour a 28 sq. ft. PSE&G utility pad, ensuring it cleared inspection requirements without stalling the plaza’s main timeline.
